Rosberg wary of severe tyre degradation
12 April 2013 – Nico Rosberg echoed the words of team-mate Lewis Hamilton's after the opening two practice sessions for the Chinese Grand Prix at the Shanghai International Circuit, admitting that despite its impressive raw pace, his Mercedes team has plenty of work to do before it can begin to feel satisfied about its long run performance.
The German, who topped the timesheets in the morning, was one of many drivers to suffer with extreme degradaton while lapping on Pirelli's Soft compound tyre during the second session and is eyeing significant progress in this area overnight.
"It was good to be back on the track here in Shanghai where I have experienced some really good moments in my career," Rosberg told reporters in the paddock. "I felt very comfortable in the car and it was a productive day for us, we definitely learnt a lot.
"We looked good over one lap, but there is some work still to do on the longer runs. Tyre degradation was particularly high on the Option compound tyre out there today. So we need to analyse this and decide what is best to do in the race."
Rosberg claimed pole position and a dominant victory at last year's Chinese Grand Prix, marking his maiden triumph in the sport and Mercedes's first since 1955.
