Alonso targets double Ferrari podium
13 April 2013 – Fernando Alonso is hoping that both he and Ferrari team-mate Felipe Massa will be able to finish on the podium in Sunday’s Chinese Grand Prix, with the pair claiming third and fifth on the grid respectively in a frantic end to qualifying at Shanghai.
Praising his team for a number of crucial changes during the final practice session this morning, Alonso trailed pole-sitter and former McLaren colleague Lewis Hamilton by three tenths of a second, admitting that he is "very happy" with the result.
"Very, very happy," Alonso said of his second row slot. "The weekend has been very good for us. We have looked competitive from Friday. This morning we made some changes and the car is responding well.
"We have a good setup for the race as well, which is always more important than the qualifying. Tomorrow, if everything goes well, we should be able to fight for the podium. Hopefully with both cars, which would be good news for the team."
Ahead of the race, Massa holds a four point advantage over Alonso in the overall championship standings, with the pair sitting in respective fifth and sixth places.
