Ricciardo: everything clicked into place
14 April 2013 – Daniel Ricciardo was relieved to convert his strong qualifying performance into a maiden points finish of the season at Shanghai on Sunday afternoon, crossing the line in seventh place after a Grand Prix focused around Pirelli's tyre compounds.
The Toro Rosso driver, who adds six points to his team's championship tally, says he felt "everything clicked into place" after a flurry of technical changes in recent months.
"I am really pleased to score my first points of the season and to confirm the qualifying performance," said Ricciardo, who retained his position despite an early front wing change. "After yesterday I kept calm, knowing the real work would begin today. The last time I qualified this well was sixth in Bahrain last year and then I failed to score, so today, I really wanted to show people what I could do. It’s great for me to have had a great race but it’s especially good for the team."
"We have had many changes in terms of personnel and it takes a while for that to gel and this weekend, it felt like everything clicked into place. The first two race weekends were a bit up and down, but now I expect us to continue getting stronger from here."
Ricciardo's result, Toro Rosso's best since the 2011 Korean Grand Prix, elevates his team to seventh in the Constructors' standings, two points clear of rivals Sauber.
