Salo gets driver steward role in Bahrain
17 April 2013 – Mika Salo has been named as the driver representative steward for this weekend's Bahrain Grand Prix. The 46-year-old Finn, who raced in Formula 1 between 1994 and 2002, previously undertook the FIA-defined role at the European Grand Prix last year.
Salo picked up two podium finishes in Formula 1, with both coming for Ferrari when he covered for the injured Michael Schumacher in 1999. At Hockenheim, he was ordered to give up the lead in favour of Eddie Irvine who was fighting for the title.
After his career in the top flight, Salo spent a short phase in America's CART series before going on to twice claim GT2 class honours at the 24 Hours of Le Mans.
