'Rosberg was unbeatable today' – Vettel
20 April 2013 – Reigning World Champion Sebastian Vettel says he is not disappointed with his second-place starting position for the Bahrain Grand Prix, conceding that even with a perfect lap he would not have been able to outpace Mercedes rival Nico Rosberg.
Vettel, who topped the second qualifying phase, will start just ahead of the two Ferrari drivers on Sunday and made it clear that he was not disappointed with the outcome.
"I’m definitely not disappointed," Vettel commented. "Nico put a very strong lap in; it was all his today. When crossed the line I saw second place on one of the screens. The lap was fine. You can always find a little bit of time here and there, but when I heard the gap I knew even with a perfect lap he was unbeatable today."
Vettel is hoping that Red Bull’s tyre-saving tactics throughout qualifying will pay dividends on Sunday, with the German expecting degradation to map the outcome.
"We saved some tyres in qualifying," he said. "It will all be about tyre degradation tomorrow. We’ll see what happens but it’s good to start from the front row."
Red Bull team-mate Mark Webber ended up fifth fastest in the final qualifying phase, but drops to seventh following his three-place grid penalty from Shanghai. The Australian gains one place back due to Lewis Hamilton's gearbox change.
