Räikkönen satisfied after 'normal' Friday
10 May 2013 – Lotus driver Kimi Räikkönen was left feeling satisfied after what he described as "a pretty normal" opening day at the Circuit de Catalunya, the Finn ending up fourth on the combined timesheets and within three tenths of pace-setter Sebastian Vettel.
Although the former World Champion admits that progress needs to be made overnight, having experienced the team's latest upgrade package and the modified Hard compound tyre for the first time, he is content with the work he completed.
"It was a pretty normal Friday," Räikkönen explained in the Barcelona paddock. "We tried some things on the car, ran with some different tyres and we’ll have a look at all the data to see where we think we are.
"We finished the day not too far off the fastest time, so we can say that the day wasn’t a disaster, but for sure there are some things we have to improve with the car which is normal after the first day’s running."
Räikkönen was one of three drivers, along with Jenson Button and compatriot Valtteri Bottas, to be fined by governing body the FIA for pit lane speeding in Friday practice.
