Hamilton: Rosberg was simply faster
11 May 2013 – Lewis Hamilton has conceded that Mercedes team-mate Nico Rosberg was out of reach during Saturday afternoon's qualifying session for the Spanish Grand Prix, with the Briton having to settle for second position after topping the second phase.
Hamilton, who was consigned to a sole timed run in the final shootout due to a lack of Option tyres, posted an effort of 1:20.972, exactly 0.254 seconds slower than Rosberg.
"Firstly, I want to congratulate Nico on the pole - he did a great job," Hamilton said during the post-qualifying press conference. "I am very happy for him and the team, as they have worked really hard in the factory.
"I am proud that I helped to achieve a front row for the team but we have to be careful with our predictions for the race, because tomorrow will be very challenging."
Hamilton added: "I didn't have two sets of Option tyres left [for the final qualifying segment] which did not help me, but at the end of the day Nico was simply faster."
