Rosberg hopes to capitalise on one-lap pace
18 May 2013 – Nico Rosberg is hoping to capitalise on the one-lap pace he has demonstrated so far this season at next weekend's Monaco Grand Prix, with the Mercedes driver aware that overtaking will be much more of a challenge on the streets of the principality.
The German, whose team's tyre struggles have continued into the 2013 campaign, believes that if he can claim what would be a third consecutive pole position, his chances of fighting for victory will be higher due to the confined nature of the venue.
"I have good memories from the race last year after finishing in second place and I hope we can get another good result this time around," said Rosberg.
"At the moment we have a good car for qualifying which helps in Monaco as it's the most important qualifying session of the year as track position is so important. So that might be helpful for us but there are so many unknowns, especially with the tyres, so we will just have to wait and see."
At the Circuit de Catalunya last time out, Rosberg slipped back to sixth after starting from pole position, while team-mate Lewis Hamilton dropped from second to 12th.
