Wolff targets double points finish in Monaco
17 May 2013 – Mercedes Executive Director Toto Wolff has targeted a double points finish at next weekend's Monaco Grand Prix, insisting that his team "must improve quickly" after struggling to cope with tyre degradation at the Circuit de Catalunya last time out.
Although Nico Rosberg and Lewis Hamilton locked-out the front row in Barcelona, Sunday afternoon's race yielded only a sixth-place finish, something Wolff is eager to bounce back from at a street circuit known for a lack of overtaking opportunities.
"It is clear to everybody in the team that, while we have a strong car right now, we are not able to use that performance properly on Sunday afternoon," said Wolff, who joined Mercedes from Williams. "Although overtaking in Monaco is difficult, we cannot afford to be complacent in terms of tyre management and we will need to do significantly better than we managed in Barcelona in order to score a strong result.
"We have only scored points with one of our cars at the past three races and this is something we must improve quickly, beginning next weekend in Monte-Carlo."
Mercedes will be heading to Monte-Carlo with the possibility of securing a fourth consecutive pole position, having topped qualifying sessions since Shanghai.
