Lowe adds to strength in depth, says Brawn
21 May 2013 – Mercedes team boss Ross Brawn has welcomed Paddy Lowe to the outfit with open arms, stating that the former McLaren employee will provide further strength in depth during the crucial transition from V8 engines to turbocharged V6 powerplants.
With Brawn continuing to act as Team Principal and Toto Wolff holding the primary executive role, Lowe will join the team on 3 June as Executive Director, having been permitted by McLaren to terminate his contract well before the planned exit date.
"I am delighted to welcome Paddy to the team and to begin working together," Brawn said of Lowe's arrival. "He has an excellent record of success in the sport and would be an asset to any of our rivals in the pit lane. It is no secret that every team is facing a significant balancing act between this year and next.
"But it is perhaps less obvious that we will also see major changes for the 2015 and 2016 seasons, as development progresses with the new generation of car design and Power Unit. To deliver in these circumstances, a successful team needs strength in depth. Paddy's arrival will further strengthen our organisation and puts us in a strong position for the future."
Lowe's planned departure from McLaren was announced following the team's car launch in February, although Mercedes had yet to confirm his arrival until Monday.
