Mallya targets double top ten in Monaco
20 May 2013 – Force India boss Vijay Mallya has set his sights on recording a double points finish at the Monaco Grand Prix, admitting that failing to regularly make the top ten with both cars has been a weakness for the Silverstone-based team so far this season.
Although Adrian Sutil and Paul di Resta finished seventh and eighth respectively at the season-opening Australian Grand Prix back in March, only the latter has been able to score points since, a fact that Mallya hopes will be pushed aside this weekend.
"In our first European race, two weeks ago in Barcelona, the team once again showed its form," Mallya said of the Spanish Grand Prix. "A strong points finish by Paul Di Resta ensured we held on to fifth position in the World Championship, and we look capable of fighting at this level in the races to come.
"With a little help from Lady Luck, who hasn’t been much on Adrian Sutil’s side lately, we will be able to score points with both cars and firmly establish our position in the championship. So far our weakness has been failing to get both cars home in the points and it’s something we need to remedy."
Of the team's chances on the streets of Monte-Carlo, Mallya said: "As a venue, it’s one of my favourites and a track where our car has always worked well. We’ve scored points there for the last three seasons and will be aiming to do the same this year."
Force India sits fifth in the Constructors' standings ahead of the Monaco Grand Prix, having amassed 32 points during the first five races, three more than McLaren.
