Kobayashi returns to Formula 1 paddock
23 May 2013 – Kamui Kobayashi has returned to the Formula 1 paddock for the first time since exiting the sport at the end of 2012, with the Japanese, who now races in the World Endurance Championship (WEC) for AF Corse Ferrari, representing the Italian outfit.
Having lost his Sauber seat to new arrivals Nico Hülkenberg and Esteban Gutiérrez for 2013, Kobayashi was offered a test in the Ferrari 458 Italia GT2. The 26-year-old impressed and earned a WEC seat alongside Toni Vilander and Olivier Beretta.
Kobayashi has secured podium finishes at the opening pair of WEC rounds, finishing third and Silverstone and picking up a second place result at Spa-Francorchamps.
