'The weekend was perfect' – Rosberg
26 May 2013 – Nico Rosberg described a "perfect weekend" after converting pole position into victory in Monte-Carlo on Sunday. The Mercedes driver, who achieved his first win of the season, dominated the race to repeat the victory of father Keke 30 years ago.
After holding onto his lead at the start, Rosberg remained calm under a number of Safety Car periods, as well as a lengthy red flag phase, before taking the chequered flag almost four seconds ahead of reigning World Champion Sebastian Vettel.
"It's amazing, it's very special to win at home," Rosberg said during the post-race press conference. "The whole weekend went perfectly. I had a terrible start and it was very close to Sebastian and [team-mate] Lewis [Hamilton], but that worked out well. After that I just controlled the pace, the car was really good and the tyres held on."
He added: "I'm just extremely happy to win this race, with such a difficult time behind us. We have been dropping back so much, so that was a little bit in the back of my mind. I hoped to pull it off as it's not nice to fall back. The team gave me a great car, so it was enough to make it happen. We've improved from Barcelona. I'm ecstatic."
In the sister Mercedes, Hamilton slipped back from second to fourth position, losing out significantly when he pitted behind Rosberg during the opening Safety Car phase.
