Webber blames van der Garde for clash
9 June 2013 – Mark Webber believes that Giedo van der Garde was at fault for their collision during Sunday afternoon’s Canadian Grand Prix in Montreal, with the pair coming together while the Red Bull driver attempted to put a lap on his Caterham rival.
On the run down to the hairpin on Lap 37, van der Garde appeared to chop in front of Webber while blue flags were being waved, leaving the Australian with front wing damage and stewards with little choice but to dish out a stop-go penalty.
Asked if the incident had an effect on his result, Webber said: "The whole top section of the wing was gone, so it didn’t help. We were fighting for the podium at that point.
"I don’t know what he was doing, as there were a lot of blue flags being waved. I got on the inside of him and gave him time to know I was there, but he just went for the apex. Some guys maybe have too much concentration on driving the cars."
Team-mate Sebastian Vettel claimed a dominant victory to extend his title lead.
