Horner: Issue with Mercedes, not Pirelli
11 June 2013 – Red Bull team boss Christian Horner says he has no qualms over Formula 1 tyre supplier Pirelli's involvement in the recent private test at the Circuit de Catalunya, explaining that his issue lies solely with Brackley-based rivals Mercedes.
Ahead of the International Tribunal on 20 June, during which Mercedes and Pirelli will be charged, Horner reiterated his belief that the Silver Arrows' use of a 2013 car at the outing is his main issue, the factor that led to his team and Ferrari to lodge a protest.
"I think the issue is nothing to do with Pirelli," Horner explained. "I can understand why Pirelli would want to test. I think they wanted to understand the product for the following year. The issue was they asked for a car to be used, and it is the entrants' responsibility to ensure that that car complies with the rules.
"Our issue is not to do with Pirelli, it is to do with the entrant. Mercedes broke the rules with the current car."
The tribunal, taking place in Paris, will get underway at 9.30am local time on 20 June.
