Button: I don't know if we can win this year
11 June 2013 – McLaren driver Jenson Button has cast doubt over his team's chances of winning a race before the 2013 season concludes, with the Woking-based outfit failing to register a single point for the first time in 65 races at the Canadian Grand Prix.
Having struggled to turn the struggling MP4-28 chassis into a front-running car over the course of the first seven races, McLaren runs the risk of failing to secure at least one victory during a campaign since 2006, something Button has not ruled out.
"No one knows the answer to that," Button is quoted as saying by The Guardian. "It's pointless for me to try and answer. I don't know if we're going to win a race this year."
Despite his downbeat response, Button went on to praise McLaren's relentless will to succeed and is certain that the squad "will find answers" to its current woes.
"I'm still in a great team, probably the best team to find your way out of a situation like this. It will happen. It just takes time," 2009 World Champion Button explained. "We have a lot of talented people in this team, people who will find answers, and find a way back to the front. And it will be so much sweeter when it happens."
