Ellinas hails 'very special' maiden F1 test
19 June 2013 – Tio Ellinas described his maiden Formula 1 test on Tuesday as "a very special moment" in his career, with the 21-year-old aiding Marussia in its British Grand Prix preparations by completing various aero mapping runs at Kemble Airfield.
Ellinas, who is currently leading the GP3 Series standings in his second campaign, also made history by becoming the first Cypriot to drive a Formula 1 car.
"It was every bit as exciting as I expected it to be and a very special moment in my career," Ellinas said of his day behind the wheel. "I will always remember this day I’m sure. I got used to the car and systems quickly and felt very comfortable quite early on.
"It was very rewarding to be doing testing that will be of real value to the team going forwards. Now I can’t wait for my next opportunity at the Young Driver Test next month and I feel that the work I’ve done here will benefit me significantly for that."
Ellinas will be back in action at Silverstone's Young Driver Test from 17-19 July.
