Renault unveils sound of turbo engine
21 June 2013 – Renault unveiled its turbocharged 1.6-litre V6 engine for the 2014 Formula 1 campaign in Paris on Friday. The French manufacturer, which will power at least three teams next year, also released an audio file to give the first taster of the new-generation sound.
Red Bull, Toro Rosso and Caterham are currently contracted to use Renault engines in 2014, although Lotus is close to securing an extension to its agreement. Back in May, Williams announced its move to Mercedes powerplants for the new regulations.
Based on Renault's audio taster, the V6 will have a lower pitch than the current V8s.
