Alonso: Worst Saturday of the season
29 June 2013 – Fernando Alonso says a below par qualifying performance for the British Grand Prix at Silverstone brought to an end the "worst Saturday of the season" for Ferrari.
The Spaniard, who failed to find a comfortable car balance throughout practice, had to settle for tenth position in the final shootout phase, while team-mate Felipe Massa was eliminated from Q2 after struggling to recover from his Friday accident.
"This weekend has been complicated for us by problems that we haven’t managed to get on top of, concerning various aspects such as the balance of the car, its driveability and performance," said Alonso. "We can consider this the worst Saturday of the season so far, having never finished so far down.
"Now we must react immediately to try and return to the form we showed at the start of the season. We definitely expected a lot more here, because this is a track that suits our car’s characteristics better than others."
Despite his grid position, Alonso is still hopeful of challenging for a large points haul, with the Spaniard eager to limit the gains of current title leader Sebastian Vettel.
"Even if the race will be an uphill struggle we are well aware how things can change during a race," the two-time World Champion began to summarise. "We hope we can stage a good climb up the order and bring home as many points as possible."
