Rosberg: We're growing into favourites role
4 July 2013 – Mercedes driver Nico Rosberg reckons the team is now getting to the stage where they can be considered the favourites.
The 28-year-old took his second victory of the season last Sunday at the British Grand Prix and following that success he is eager to get win number three this weekend on home soil at the Nürburgring.
“We are fast and we are setting the pace and we are growing into the role of being favourites for the races now,” Rosberg told The Indian Express in the countdown to the German Grand Prix, round nine in the 2013 FIA F1 World Championship.
“That is a fantastic feeling and for me, personally, it would be so good, so fantastic, if I can win again [this Sunday] to complete a hat-trick of three wins on my home circuits.”
Mercedes moved up to second and ahead of Ferrari in the Constructor’s Championship following the event at Silverstone and Rosberg believes the Brackley-based outfit has learned from its woes in 2010, 2011 and 2012.
“We've had three years where it's been difficult, and we learned a lot,” Rosberg added to Autosport. “Now things are coming together. We built up the team with more employees, working together better. A lot of fantastic people have joined the team to complement the fantastic people that we already had.
"They managed to build a great car over the winter. Then in the development race this season, which was our big weakness last year, it seems to be going pretty well at the moment - which is another sign of the team building and having learned from our issues in past years.
“We have fantastic momentum in the team at the moment. It's great to be a part of it,” he concluded.
