Vergne and Ricciardo to test at Silverstone
10 July 2013 – Jean-Eric Vergne and Daniel Ricciardo will both be in action for Scuderia Toro Rosso during the three-day test at Silverstone from July 17-19. Vergne confirmed the news today in his latest blog on the official Toro Rosso website, although he added that the team’s exact schedule for next week has still to be finalised.
“I hope that we will get some answers [during that test],” Vergne wrote, “particularly in regard to what to expect from the revised Pirelli tyres, which is what us race drivers will work on.
“We’re getting 2013 compounds built on 2012 constructions, so it will be interesting to see how we handle those.”
Meanwhile, Vergne has reiterated how disappointed he was with his weekend in Germany and his second retirement in a row.
“It was not a good weekend for me, or for the whole team. Nothing went right for me from the first moment we put the car on track to the moment the team told me to retire from the race on lap 23,” he continued.
“The car was very difficult to handle. I had no grip, I wasn’t happy with the balance, and the performance just wasn’t there. It’s very hard to understand after the good weekends we had in Monaco and Canada.”
So what's the plan for the next race Hungary? "[Its] a chance to get things back on track. The Hungarian GP wasn’t a memorable one for me last year. I think I qualified 16th and raced to the same position, but I’ll go there this year hoping that we can turn things around,” he added.
“Indeed, a bit like a football team getting a psychological advantage over their opponents by scoring just before half time, it would be great for us to go into the break with a good result under our belts and feeling like we’re well placed for the second half of the season.”
