Chilton to perform demo runs in Moscow
17 July 2013 – Marussia driver Max Chilton will take to the wheel of the MR02 chassis on the streets of Moscow this weekend, as the squad looks to capitalise on increased Russian interest in the sport ahead of the country's inaugural Grand Prix at the Sochi next year.
As part of the outfit’s second successive ‘Moscow City Racing’ motorsport show appearance, Chilton will perform demonstration runs around a course that includes many of the city’s major landmarks. Fans will also be given the chance to enter a mock Formula 1 paddock area located close to the Red Square.
!Moscow City Racing will be my very first visit to Russia. I can’t wait," Chilton said ahead of the show. "From what I hear from previous events, the demonstration runs are a fantastic spectacle and the crowd is huge and very supportive. That’s nice, because we are the only Anglo-Russian team and it is good to keep building on their love of Formula 1 before Russia gets its very own race next year in Sochi."
Although based in Britain, the former Virgin team has raced under a Russian licence since the 2011 campaign, when the perennial backmarkers were bought out by Moscow-based sports car manufacturer Marussia Motors.
