17 July 2013 – Daniel Juncadella's Young Driver Test outing with Williams has been extended after the outfit suffered bodywork problems in the early stages of the opening day.
The Spaniard, 22, was restricted to just a handful of laps in the morning, with an aero sensor rake disturbing the airflow over the FW35 in an unforeseen manner. After the issue was fixed, he raised his lap total to 55 and ended the day fifth fastest.
Having been scheduled for the duration of Thursday's running, Pastor Maldonado will hand over the Juncadella in the afternoon to allow for further race simulations.
"From the first lap I could feel the speed of the car and it was a great experience today," reigning European F3 Champion Juncadella, who now competes in the DTM series, reflected. "I’m really happy with the chance the team gave me. In the end, we couldn’t complete our full programme but we had some good runs this afternoon.
"I get on well with the engineers; we worked well together. The team has given me all the support I needed so I’m looking forward to getting another chance tomorrow."
Development driver Susie Wolff will bring the test to an end for Williams on Friday.
