Allison to join Ferrari as chassis chief
29 July 2013 – Ferrari has confirmed that ex-Lotus Technical Director James Allison will join the team from September 1, following months of speculation over his future employment.
Having left Lotus in May, Allison was immediately linked with a move to Ferrari, where he will now serve as Chassis Technical Director. Pat Fry is to move into a new role of Director of Engineering, with both men reporting to team boss Stefano Domenicali.
When asked about Allison's capabilities following his Lotus exit earlier in the year, Ferrari driver Fernando Alonso admitted that he is "one of the top men" in Formula 1.
"I worked very closely with him and was World Champion with him two times," Alonso explained. "Then I came back to Renault for 2008 and 2009; in 2009 he was already Technical Director and we were not so successful with that car, but we saw the Lotus car in the last two years and it is no secret that he's one of the top men here."
Allison previously worked for Ferrari in the early 2000s, leaving in 2004 and joining Renault the following season. He began his Formula 1 career with Benetton in 1991.
