Boullier ranks Räikkönen's season as 10/10
3 August 2013 – Lotus Team Principal Eric Boullier has expressed his opinion that lead driver Kimi Räikkönen is doing a sterling job for the Enstone-based outfit, and has rated the Finn’s performance for the current season as ‘ten out of ten’.
Having won at the opening round in Australia, Räikkönen is now the only driver to score points at every race in the 2013 season, and has set the record for consecutive points finishes in the top echelon. A combination of calm and considered driving, alongside consistent speed, has seen the 2007 World Champion rise to second in the Drivers’ Championship. When asked to rank his drivers, Boullier responded in an emphatic fashion.
“I would have to give Kimi ten out of ten. He’s done a terrific job right from the beginning of the season and his remarkable run of twenty-seven consecutive points finishes speaks for itself. No matter what happens he’s always there, as we saw in the final few laps at Monaco.”
Boullier’s thoughts come in the light of a revival in form for the Lotus squad, whilst rumours linking Räikkönen to the second Red Bull drive for 2014 continue to persist. With that in mind, Boullier stated his belief that the Finn remains a crucial lynchpin in determining the future direction of the squad.
“He is playing a big part in pushing the team forwards, and of course having such a popular character in the seat has its advantages too.”
With ten races completed, Räikkönen currently sits on 134 points, 38 behind leader and reigning champion Sebastian Vettel.
