Gutiérrez expecting points finish in Belgium
21 August 2013 – Esteban Gutiérrez believes that he can secure his maiden Formula 1 points result at the Belgian Grand Prix, the Mexican having so far failed to finish higher than 11th during his short stint in the top echelon.
Gutiérrez has been comprehensively outperformed by Nico Hülkenberg throughout the season, with the German remaining as one of only two drivers in the field to have retained a perfect qualifying record over his team-mate. Despite this, Sauber CEO Monisha Kaltenborn has backed her rookie driver to deliver in the second half of the season, and the 22 year-old reckons that a trouble-free weekend will see him repay the faith shown in him.
"Belgium will be an interesting race with everything we have done to the car during the past GPs. Obviously qualifying in Hungary was not good, because of the time we lost in FP3," he explained. "But I think we can manage to get into the position we were expecting, which is around P10 in Spa-Francorchamps. It is one of the tracks that I enjoy driving the most, because it has a lot of quick corners and it just flows. You can feel the limits of the car at really high speeds.
"As a racing driver it is impossible not to enjoy the track, because it has fast corners, you are going uphill, downhill and I am really looking forward to it."
