Toto Wolff: Spa should suit Mercedes
21 August 2013 – Mercedes Executive Director Toto Wolff has expressed his opinion that the team's F1 W04 chassis will be well suited to the Spa-Francorchamps circuit, the Austrian expecting it to exploit the flowing, high-speed nature of the track.
Ackowledging that more speed has been extracted from its 2013 car than had initially been expected, Wolff hailed the strength of the team's new-found 'all-round package', alluding to Lewis Hamilton's vastly increased race pace en route to victory in Hungary.
Looking ahead to the weekend, Wolff also noted that the particular demands of the Ardennes venue may lead to an increased rate of attrition, meaning that his outfit is taking nothing for granted in light of Nico Rosberg's engine failure at Budapest.
"We cannot take anything for granted in terms of performance and Spa is always a demanding circuit for reliability. The key will be to do our homework well in practice in order to achieve a strong race result for the team."
Mercedes heads into the Belgian Grand Prix weekend second in the Constructors’ standings, 69 points behind reigning World Champions and leaders Red Bull.
