I will remain at McLaren, Button repeats
28 August 2013 – McLaren driver Jenson Button has insisted that he will be racing for the team next year, moving to clarify comments he made at last weekend's Belgian Grand Prix.
Speaking at the Spa-Francorchamps event, Button revealed that the Woking-based outfit had yet to take up the option they had on him for the 2014 season, but the 2009 World Champion claims he was simply jesting with team boss Martin Whitmarsh.
"That was very unfair of me, but I was just stating a fact," explained Button, who joined McLaren from Brawn GP back in 2010. "I'll be here for my future in Formula 1."
He added: "It's obviously not going our way at the moment, but it will and I'm very happy here. I feel good here and I still feel we can achieve so much together."
Whitmarsh stated earlier in the week that he intends to retain both Button and Sergio Pérez next year, claiming they "deserve another go" after their efforts this season.
