Ricciardo 'ready to deliver' for Red Bull
2 September 2013 – Daniel Ricciardo says he will be "ready to deliver" from the offset when he joins the Red Bull team next season, the Australian having been given the nod to replace compatriot Mark Webber and race alongside triple World Champion Sebastian Vettel.
The subject of much speculation along with Lotus rival Kimi Räikkönen, Ricciardo was ultimately revealed as Red Bull's latest signing on Monday evening. And although the move comes with increased expectation, he insists he can cope with the step up.
"For sure I'm going to have to put up with a little bit more next year with scrutiny or whatever gets thrown my way," Ricciardo explained. "I'm arguably with the best team and you're expected to deliver. I'm ready for that, I'm not here to run around in tenth.
"People are going to start to expect results and they're not going to wait forever. I've got to make sure that I put in the hard work, particularly in the off-season as we approach the last few months of the year. It's up to myself and I'll then manage the pressure. But if I put in the hard work I think things will go well and the pressure will ease off quickly. I want to be there from [the first race in] Melbourne, I'm not going to allow myself any time to adapt. I'll put pressure on myself early on and expect results."
Ricciardo moved on to discuss his upcoming partnership with Sebastian Vettel, the 24-year-old relishing the opportunity of going up against a proven World Champion.
"He has achieved a hell of a lot in his career, so to put myself up against him is a great challenge," said Ricciardo. "I'm sure I'll learn very quickly. I want to be put against the best and really see if I can mix it up with Seb and the top guys in the world. I know it is going to be a challenge, but there's no better guy to have as my team-mate."
