GPUpdate readers tip Alonso at Monza
4 September 2013 – Fernando Alonso has been backed to claim victory at this weekend's Italian Grand Prix, the Ferrari driver receiving 40 percent of votes in the latest GPUpdate.net poll.
The Spaniard has twice triumphed at Monza; he took the chequered flag for McLaren in 2007 before sending the Tifosi into a frenzy with Ferrari three years later. And despite below-par machinery, he has claimed podiums for the past two seasons.
As was the case for Spa-Francorchamps, Lewis Hamilton has been labelled the second biggest threat with a 19 percent share of the votes, just ahead of reigning World Champion Sebastian Vettel (17 percent) and Kimi Räikkönen (16 percent).
Mark Webber (three percent) and Nico Rosberg (two percent) are rank outsiders, while two percent believe a driver below sixth in the standings can battle for the win.
First practice at Monza gets underway on Friday at 10am local time (GMT +2)
