Sirotkin to attend Italian Grand Prix
4 September 2013 – The upcoming Italian Grand Prix weekend will mark the first time that Sergey Sirotkin attends a race as an official member of the Sauber team, with the Hinwil-based outfit ramping up preparations to promote the Russian driver to a race seat in 2014.
Sirotkin will be present at all engineering briefings throughout the Monza event, as well as taking part in discussions on tyre strategy. The 18-year-old, who currently races in Formula Renault 3.5, is also set to be involved in any practice pit-stops.
The signing of Sirotkin to Sauber's talent programme sparked a fierce debate over the merits of pay drivers in Formula 1, with his suitability for a drive coming under scrutiny.
