Webber: Ricciardo perfect for Red Bull
5 September 2013 – Mark Webber has described Daniel Ricciardo's promotion to Red Bull as "the perfect scenario" for the oufit, with the Toro Rosso driver becoming the second person, after future team-mate Sebastian Vettel, to successfully journey through its talent scheme.
Webber, who is departing the sport to contest the World Endurance Championship (WEC) with the renowned Porsche marque, said his fellow Australian, 24, is fully deserving of the opportunity, and has tipped him to perform well under pressure.
"Of course," said Webber when asked during Thursday's press conference at Monza if he is pleased for his compatriot. "It’s very, very rare to have an Australian in Formula 1. It's great to hand the baton over at Red Bull, a very, very successful team.
"It’s great for Dan, he deserves it. Coming to Europe initially is a great test; he did brilliantly. And it’s the perfect scenario for Red Bull, it all fits well. They have finally got another driver from the young driver programme. Now it’s all in his corner and he can do a tremendous job."
When pushed to give Ricciardo advice on how best to approach racing alongside Vettel, Webber said: "Daniel will handle it fine. He knows how to handle himself."
Ricciardo then added: "I think that's for me to figure out myself, I'll be alright."
