Hülkenberg overjoyed with showing
7 September 2013 – Nico Hülkenberg was suitably delighted after securing a third-place starting position for the Italian Grand Prix at Monza, the best qualifying result since joining Sauber.
Having struggled throughout Friday's pair of 90-minute practice sessions, the former Williams and Force India driver enjoyed an improved car balance in the grid-deciding hour, later praising his team for the series of set-up changes made overnight.
"It's a really nice surprise," Hülkenberg explained. "We had a very difficult Friday, so the guys have done a fantastic job to turn the car around. I had a fantastic car today, it got better and better and it was a very good lap that made this nice surprise happen."
Hülkenberg added that he is not expecting to repeat the second-place finish achieved by Sergio Pérez 12 months ago, but is hopeful of taking home a large haul of points.
"Last year was a very different year as Sauber was very competitive, very often," he said. "It's been a more difficult year, let's put it this way. Our long run pace should be alright, not enough to challenge these guys [Red Bull] but points will be the target."
