Räikkönen: Lotus just not fast enough
7 September 2013 – Kimi Räikkönen says his car was simply "not fast enough" to fight for a place at the sharp-end of the Monza grid, with the Finn claiming a season-worst slot of 11th.
Having trialled the long-wheelbase varation of the E21 chassis throughout Friday practice, Räikkönen reverted to the standard design overnight, but the former World Champion was unable to make major strides and suffered an early qualifying exit.
"We were just not fast enough today," Räikkönen said. "We have been suffering a bit all weekend so far and it was the same today. It just isn’t our kind of circuit and layout where we have to run small wings.
"The car behaved pretty OK but we just didn’t have the downforce to go fast through the corners with our low drag package. Hopefully tomorrow will be a bit better but I’m not expecting any big surprises. In any case we will do the best we can."
Team-mate Romain Grosjean was also eliminated from Q2 and will start 13th.
