Ferrari close to deciding 2014 line-up
8 September 2013 – Ferrari will decide its 2014 driver line-up shortly after the Italian Grand Prix, President Luca di Montezemolo has revealed, with Kimi Räikkönen not being ruled out.
Discussions are set to be held with Felipe Massa following Sunday afternoon's race at Monza, before team chiefs come to a verdict over who is to partner Fernando Alonso next season, the latter pledging his Formula 1 future to the team earlier in the week.
"We will think of this immediately after Monza as we wanted to arrive here without any strange pressure," said di Montezemolo. "We will take a decision in the next days; we haven't taken any kind of decision yet. We haven't signed a contract with anybody.
"We will talk with Massa, then we will have our opinion, and then we will decide."
In addition to Räikkönen, Nico Hülkenberg, Paul di Resta and protege Jules Bianchi – who is racing for Marussia – are Massa's main rivals for the coveted seat, with di Montezemolo stating: "We can take somebody else. We have several names."
When pushed on the circumstances that led to Räikkönen's exit at the end of the 2009 season, di Montezemolo failed to rule out the team's latest title-winner making a return, explaining: "What happened? We won a World Championship. Kimi is a good driver. It is not a problem, but also there are some possibilities with other drivers.
"But there is also the possibility, like last year, that we decide to continue with Felipe. Now is the time to take the decision. Before it was too early, but we will take it now."
