Red Bull, Ricciardo set for tyre test
9 September 2013 – Red Bull has confirmed that it will this week conduct a two-day tyre test at the Circuit de Barcelona-Catalunya to aid Pirelli with the development of its 2014 compounds.
New-signing Daniel Ricciardo is scheduled to complete a full day of running, as well as dedicated test driver Sébastien Buemi. The car in use will be the two-year-old double title-winning RB7 chassis, as permitted by the current sporting regulations.
"Pirelli approached all of the teams to see if they would be prepared to supply a 2011 car to conduct some 2014 tyre testing, so we have made a car available," said Red Bull team boss Christian Horner. "I am not sure if any other teams will be testing."
He added: "Sébastien Buemi will be driving on one day and Daniel Ricciardo will probably drive on another. It will be an opportunity for him to familiarise himself more with the team, but it is very much a Pirelli test. We have provided a car that we use for the running show car events that we do, and the run plan will be dictated by Pirelli."
Ferrari and Mercedes have also conducted tyre tests for Pirelli this season, although the latter used its current machine. This led to a hearing at the International Tribunal, where the panel issued the team with a ban from the Silverstone Young Driver Test.
