Van der Garde sure 10th is possible
12 September 2013 – Giedo van der Garde is confident that Caterham has what it takes to pass Marussia for 10th place in the Constructors' battle, but admits the team will need luck to do so.
After Ferrari protege Jules Bianchi finished 13th for Marussia at the rain-hit Malaysian Grand Prix in March, Caterham has been unable to record a stronger race result, with van der Garde's effort of 14th in Hungary coming the closest to altering the situation.
But starting with the notoriously challenging Singapore Grand Prix next weekend, van der Garde believes his team will have "two or three" more clear opportunities to take back the coveted position, and the significant financial advantages that come with it.
"I'm sure we can pass Marussia, but we need a little luck," van der Garde explained to GPUpdate.net. "We just need rain at one of the races or one with lots of retirements.
"During the last few races we have been much stronger than Marussia, but we need a bit of luck to get 12th or 13th [in a race]. I think we have got two or three more chances to get 10th position back and the Singapore Grand Prix is certainly one of them."
Singapore kickstarts the final flyaway stint of the season, featuring seven races.
