Marussia confirms Bianchi for 2014
3 October 2013 – Jules Bianchi will remain at Marussia through the 2014 campaign, the Frenchman signing an extension to his contract with the Banbury-based team.
The Ferrari protege, 23, joined the outfit shortly before the current season began, with intended driver Luiz Razia hitting sponsorship trouble. He has since demonstrated strong pace alongside team-mate Max Chilton, whose stay is yet to be renewed.
Team boss John Booth, who made clear that the team's full line-up will be confirmed later this season, said of the agreement: "It gives us great pleasure to announce that we will go forward into 2014 with Jules as a race driver. Jules joined us at very short notice at the end of pre-season testing, with only two days of running. He rose to the challenge exceptionally well and has clearly demonstrated his ability and potential."
"I couldn't have wished for a more supportive environment in which to make my F1 debut and from the very beginning I have always felt completely at home with the team," said Bianchi. "We started the season very well and while the challenge has increased as the season has developed, we have learned important lessons together that will place us in a much stronger position next year when there are a lot of changes for the sport and the team to get used to."
He added: "I am very excited to be part of the team as we all enter this new era of Formula 1 and I look forward to achieving some rewarding performances together."
Bianchi went on to state that he is fully focused on securing 10th in the Constructors' standings over the final six races, a place he gave them at the Malaysian Grand Prix.
"Looking ahead to the remainder of the season, we have a lot of hard work to do in the next six races to deliver 10th place in the Constructors' Championship," he explained. "I will be very focused on what I can do to play my part in bringing that result about."
