Hülkenberg to decide future this month
3 October 2013 – Nico Hülkenberg is set to make a decision on his Formula 1 future this month, the German expecting his position to be finalised in the next "one, two, three weeks".
Hülkenberg, whose standing at current team Sauber is unknown due to the planned promotion of Formula Renault 3.5 racer Sergey Sirotkin in 2014, narrowly missed out on a Ferrari drive last month, but has since emerged as a leading Lotus candidate.
When asked in Korea when he anticipates his future to be confirmed, Hülkenberg said: "Soon; one, two, three weeks. These things take time. You speak to each other, you see what you come up with and it's the usual talks. There are no issues or nothing major, but these things are a bit time consuming to finalise everything.
"I'm fairly confident but I also learned my lesson in 2010 [when Williams dropped him after his debut campaign in favour of Pastor Maldonado] to take nothing for granted!"
Focusing on the final six races of the season, Hülkenberg is hopeful that Sauber's recent performance spike will continue, having scored points in the past two races.
"I'm fairly confident that we can keep this level," he explained. "I think we have the performance to be just in or around the top ten and can challenge for more points."
