Hamilton 'really happy' with first day
4 October 2013 – Lewis Hamilton was left feeling encouraged by his pace throughout the opening day of practice in Korea, with the Mercedes driver topping both 90 minute sessions.
Having shown strong one-lap performance on Pirelli's Medium compound in the morning session, Hamilton found enough of an improvement on the Super Soft rubber to fend off Sebastian Vettel, who had topped the previous five Fridays.
"It's been a good day," Hamilton told reporters after his time behind the wheel. "I'm really happy with the way everything has gone. We've got some improvements to make in terms of the setup, but we look competitive like we were in the last race.
When asked about the prospect of fighting for pole position and the victory, the 2008 World Champion replied: "That's what I'm here to do and I definitely feel like I have a better foundation this weekend. I can't remember when I had such a strong Friday."
Team-mate Nico Rosberg ended the first day third on the combined timesheets.
