Vettel predicts stern Mercedes challenge
4 October 2013 – Red Bull driver Sebastian Vettel says he is expecting a close pole position fight with Mercedes in Korea, having been outpaced by Lewis Hamilton during Friday practice.
The German, who had controlled the previous five Fridays, trailed the leading Silver Arrows machine by 0.108 seconds. And although he admits there is some "room for improvement" overnight, he feels Mercedes' qualifying advantage will shine through.
"Overall I'm pretty happy, we had a solid day. There were no issues with the car." Vettel told the gathered media at Yeongam. "But surely there is room for improvement.
"It will be very close with Mercedes this weekend. It was close today. We don't know what others are doing with fuel, but give or take 10kg up or down it's still quite close. In qualifying it will be tight, as Mercedes always performs very well in qualifying."
Mark Webber wound up fourth in the sister Red Bull, six hundredths adrift of Vettel.
