Hülkenberg: One of my best races
6 October 2013 – Nico Hülkenberg says he delivered "one of the best races in my career" at the Korea International Circuit on Sunday, the Sauber driver holding on to a joint-personal best result of fourth amid relentless pressure from Lewis Hamilton and Fernando Alonso.
Having started from seventh on the grid, the German avoided the drama of the opening lap to emerge in a top five position, before taking advantage of Hamilton's mid-race tyre issues and Nico Rosberg's front wing failure to rise further up the order.
And although Lotus rival Kimi Räikkönen got the jump around the two Safety Car periods, Hülkenberg headed and fended off a sizeable train of cars until the finish.
"Today I drove one of the best races in my career so far," explained Hülkenberg after the race. "I have had cars in the mirrors before, but today there were a lot and it was a bit annoying. Lewis really put the pressure on at the end, especially in the last sector."
Hülkenberg was full of praise for the handling of his C32: The car's traction was very good, so that kept me alive against Fernando and Lewis later on. We were also very fast on the straight. A big thank you to the team for providing such an excellent car."
Team-mate Esteban Gutiérrez missed out on a maiden point by 0.835 seconds.
