Vettel: Still room for improvement
11 October 2013 – Reigning World Champion Sebastian Vettel says there is still room for improvement after controlling the opening day of practice for the Japanese Grand Prix at Suzuka.
The German, who can claim a fourth Drivers' crown this weekend, led team-mate and nearest rival Mark Webber by 0.168 seconds on the combined timesheets, despite being forced to abandon his optimal Medium tyre lap due to waved yellow flags.
"I don't know how it looks from the outside. I think the balance is decent," Vettel explained. "But we can still improve car, there is a little bit of room for improvement."
Vettel added that getting on top of the tyres will be vital this weekend: "Looking after tyres will be crucial. Not so much in qualifying but obviously the race. It's tricky. Lots of people were struggling. It will be a big challenge to find the best strategy on Sunday."
If Vettel is to claim a fourth successive world title on Sunday afternoon, he must win the Grand Prix and hope that Ferrari's Fernando Alonso finishes ninth or lower.
