Boullier: Lotus can finish second
18 October 2013 – Eric Boullier believes second position in the Constructors' Championship is a "very attainable" target for Lotus, providing the team can maintain its impressive form.
Lotus currently sits fourth in the standings, 23 points behind Mercedes and a further 10 adrift of Ferrari. But the pendulum has swung in its favour at the past two Grands Prix, with the Enstone-based team scoring 58 points to Ferrari's 23 and Mercedes' 20.
And looking ahead to the final four races, Boullier is hoping for more of the same.
"If we continue as we have done for the last few races, then mathematically second in the standings becomes a very attainable target," explained Boullier. "Of course, we all know that anything can happen in this sport, but second place would be an amazing result so we’ll push as hard as we can and you never know what might happen."
Although he admits Red Bull will be difficult to beat at the final four events, given its five-race run of victories, Boullier made clear that podium finishes are expected.
"Podiums, podiums and podiums," he said. "Of course, we want to be winning races and we'll give our all whenever there is a sniff of victory, like in Japan. There's one fundamental problem with trying to win at the moment: the pace of the Red Bulls. We'll keep pushing and if we can beat them again it would be a tremendous performance."
Boullier was also positive about the team's financial situation, as work continues to secure a partnership with Quantum Motorsports, formerly known as Infinity Racing.
"There has been a lot of talk, and there are a lot of positive things happening behind the scenes," added Boullier. "We'll certainly be shouting from the rooftops when everything is finalised as we should be exceptionally well placed looking to the future."
