Alonso congratulates 'dominant' Vettel
27 October 2013 – Fernando Alonso was quick to congratulate Sebastian Vettel after the latter picked up his fourth successive world title at the Indian Grand Prix, describing the German and his Red Bull team as a "dominant" force throughout the 2013 Formula 1 season.
The Ferrari driver struggled to an 11th-place finish at the Buddh International Circuit after opening lap contact with Mark Webber, and was therefore unable to secure the points required to keep the title fight alive at next weekend's Abu Dhabi Grand Prix.
Speaking after the race, Alonso reiterated that his and Ferrari's focus is now on developing a car strong enough to "make things more difficult" for Vettel in 2014.
"I congratulate him," said Alonso of his rival. "They've been very strong, very dominant, especially in the second half of the season. They deserve to be the champions. Now we need to start thinking for next year and try to make things more difficult for him."
Discussing the afternoon from his point of view, Alonso made reference to Webber and Kimi Räikkönen colliding before he got caught up in the first corner drama.
"I was a bit unlucky because Mark also had contact with someone else and the third part of that equation was me," said Alonso. "The race was uphill from that moment as we were last with one stop already done. The car was damaged at the front because the steering was very heavy in the right-hand corners and very light to the left."
Felipe Massa salvaged 12 points for Ferrari by taking the chequered flag in fourth.
