Alonso: We all start from zero in 2014
31 October 2013 – Fernando Alonso has responded positively after his world title hopes were officially ended by Sebastian Vettel at the Indian Grand Prix, the Ferrari driver explaining that the team is already focused on the 2014 campaign where all outfits "start from zero".
Alonso, who struggled to an 11th-place finish at the Buddh International Circuit, says his team never realistically had a chance of fighting for honours this season, but is hopeful that Vettel and Red Bull's impressive four-year run will soon come to an end.
"We didn't have the chance to fight this year," explained Alonso, who has two wins and a further six podiums to his name. "At the beginning we were closer but then we were not quick enough. Half our mind is on 2014; we want to win and we all start from zero."
Alonso went on to reiterate that there are no issues between himself and Ferrari chiefs, shunning rumours of any lasting effects after his post-Hungary public rebuke.
"Fantastic," said Alonso, when quizzed over his rapport with the team. "It has been perfect, it is perfect and it will be perfect. I'm sure I'll get the same question in Austin!"
Approaching this weekend's Abu Dhabi Grand Prix, Alonso is 24 points ahead of Lotus' Kimi Räikkönen in the battle for second position in the Drivers' championship.
