Button: Pérez deserves to keep seat
1 November 2013 – Jenson Button has publicly supported McLaren team-mate Sergio Pérez in his quest to remain at the outfit in 2014, stating that he is deserving of a contract extension.
Pérez, who joined the outfit from Sauber at the end of last season, has experienced a mixed first term at the Woking-based squad, with Sporting Director Sam Michael reiterating on Thursday that a decision over the Mexican's future is yet to be reached.
But as a final line-up call draws closer, Button reckons that Pérez – who achieved a season-best result of fifth at last weekend's Indian Grand Prix – is the logical choice.
"He deserves to be here next year," Button said of his current team-mate. "He is very quick, has good pace and he proved that all weekend in India. For the whole team it was a very promising weekend, even more so for Checo and his future in the team."
Pérez has scored 33 points to Button's 60 so far this year, with three races remaining.
