Lotus our main threat, says Vettel
1 November 2013 – Newly-crowned quadruple World Champion Sebastian Vettel believes that Lotus is most likely to end his run of race victories at this weekend's Abu Dhabi Grand Prix.
Although the Red Bull driver led the overall Friday timesheets from team-mate Mark Webber, Lotus' Romain Grosjean had set the pace in the opening session, before the Frenchman endured lengthy technical delays during the second twilight outing.
And given the Enstone-based outfit's impressive race pace at recent events, Vettel is refusing to get complacent as the prospect of a seventh straight win draws closer.
"It will be the usual suspects, to be honest," Vettel told reporters at the Yas Marina Circuit. "Lotus is exceptionally quick, especially come Sunday. They might be able to pull off strong pace later on in the stint so we will have to keep an eye on them."
Discussing his other rivals, Vettel explained: "Mercedes are strong on one lap for tomorrow. I haven't seen much of Ferrari; judging the long-run pace is difficult."
Vettel added his belief that the "funny smell" experienced during the second session was related to Jenson Button's McLaren, which appeared to suffer a slow puncture.
