Rosberg hopes to be 'second best'
1 November 2013 – Nico Rosberg hopes Mercedes will be able to emerge as the second best team at this weekend's Abu Dhabi Grand Prix, with the German suggesting that Red Bull will continue its race-winning form following its impressive Friday practice showing.
The Silver Arrows ended the opening day at the Yas Marina Circuit in third and fifth positions respectively, with Lewis Hamilton, who was 0.355 seconds adrift of ultimate pace-setter Sebastian Vettel, holding the advantage over Rosberg on the Soft tyres.
Given the team's pace in relation to key rivals Lotus and Ferrari, Rosberg is optimistic of repeating the the kind of performance that gave him the runner-up spot in India.
"I struggled a little on the Option tyres but was able to find a better rhythm when we switched to the Primes," Rosberg said of his day at the wheel. "It should be an interesting race from a strategy perspective as the tyres seem to be right on the limit of one or two stops.
"Our aim is to be the best of the rest which I'm quite confident we can and score some important points."
Hamilton added of Mercedes' current position: "A decent start today but there's a lot of work ahead of us over the weekend. We'll give it everything we can as always."
Mercedes currently sits 10 points ahead of Ferrari in the battle for second position, with a maximum of 129 up for grabs over the course of the remaining three races.
