Hamilton: Car problem caused spin
2 November 2013 – Mercedes driver Lewis Hamilton believes that a technical problem forced him into a spin on his final qualifying attempt at the Yas Marina Circuit on Saturday evening.
Hamilton, twice a pole-sitter at the Abu Dhabi venue, lost control of his car on the exit of the Turn 12/13 chicane in the dying moments of the shootout session, leaving him fourth on the grid for tomorrow's Grand Prix and behind team-mate Nico Rosberg.
"Something gave way on the right-hand side of the car," Hamilton rold reporters after the session. "I was going through the chicane and it just snapped out, which forced me into a spin. I tried to pull away and it wouldn't move, so something's busted."
Hamilton went on to explain that, although he is hoping to make up ground during Sunday evening's race, his main target is to remain ahead of Ferrari, with the Maranello-based outfit 10 points adrift in the ongoing battle for second position.
"The car felt really strong today so we'll hope for a good start and then challenge to make up some positions in the race tomorrow," he said "The good thing is that we are ahead of Ferrari and that's where we need to stay. Iope we can get a good result."
Hamilton is one of three drivers to have won in Abu Dhabi, triumphing two years ago.
